The Director’s Corner September 2010

As we enter September, we are all looking at Chapter Elections.   These are extremely important as those you elect now with be who leads your Chapter over the next 2 years.  Please vote responsibly for those who will focus on the primary mission of our Mission Statement.

On the heels of the Elections are two events that your new officers need to be aware of.   1st is our Regional Officers Meeting which is open to the Pres, VP and COB from each NE Chapter.  It will be held Oct 17th at the Epping Legion.  We discuss issues affecting the chapters and also items of discussion for the National Conference.   The National Conference is the 2nd event.  It is held Nov 5th & 6th in Washington DC.  The conference is open to all members and I encourage any who can to attend.  It can be a learning experience.  Please note that it is required for at least one officer from each Chapter to attend.

Kudo's to the Regional Committee for their efforts to coordinate our first all New England Event.  They put a lot of work into the event and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves.  We will discuss that at the Regional Officers Meeting in October.

Congratulations also to our Forming Chapter in RI.  They recently got the remaining members needed to get to 20 and are now sending in the final papers.  Hopefully they will be a full Chapter soon.  Good Job RI!

Be Safe out there, keep our military in your thoughts and prayers and thank you all for what you do.

When one American is not worth the effort to be found, we as Americans, have Lost.

WEEKLY POW/MIA VIGIL - MEREDITH NH

Every Thursday evening starting at 7:00 p.m. people gather in Hesky Park, located in Meredith, New Hampshire The Thursday evening Vigils started in August of 1989 in an effort to raise awareness about the abandonment of Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action. The first Vigil lasted 15 minutes; one minute to symbolize each year since the US State Department declared, "There are no more prisoners in Southeast Asia.  They are all dead."  The vigil now spans 32 minutes.

The Meredith POW/MIA Vigil is believed to be the longest consecutively-held vigil in the United States.  There has never been a Thursday night Vigil unattended since its inception. Vigil goers have weathered rain, sleet, snow, hail, thunder, lightning, and even temperatures of -37 degrees Fahrenheit.

MONTHLY POW/MIA VIGIL - MANCHESTER NH

Just want to let everyone know that there is a monthly POW/MIA Vigil held in Manchester NH on the 1st Wednesday of every month.  This is usually the day after our meeting.  It is held at Veterans Park on Elm Street.  Currently it's a small group and hopefully it will grow to help keep the word out there.  Please try and attend if you can, it is what we are about!
